OSSCube Team invited for FrOSCon, 22-23 August 09, Germany

OSSCube team has been invited to speak at FrOSCon, one of the most popular open source events in Europe. Hosted at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Germany, on 22-23 August 09, this event has a lot to offer. I bet you would be not like to miss a minute of it and would be confused what to choose from parllel tracks. The entire conference is organized by volunteers, who do amazing job even better than expensive famous conferences.

The conference schedule is jam packed with newer editions this year. There is a PHP subconference, Java Subconference, OpenSQLCamp 2009 and many many more. The conference attracts who is who of open source world and we are going to have a nice time!
There are a few sessions that have been approved:

1. Project Lifecycle Management using Agile, BPMN & Prototyping (Workshop) led by me - Most of us hate writing detailed software specs as they get changed over and over again making the effort of writing SRS futile. Time to market is critical and we would ideally like to rollout applications ASAP. This workshop would cover hands on demo of developing a PHP application by building a fully functional prototype in half a day. It would be an experience see how developing prototype would product HLD (High Level Design), DB Schema and SRS that you can sent to your clients for their approval. We will take an overview of Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) and how BPMN is useful for developing PHP Applications. We will also cover best practices, introduction of various tools and training on how to use them.

2. Guide to Open Source/ PHP outsourcing to India (Session) led by me - India is hub for outsourced software development. Arguably India has largest number of PHP developers in the world. This session would give you a peep into PHP landscape in India. The purpose of the session is to give you debrief on what to expect when working with PHP professionals in India. The research based session deals with

3. MySQL Cluster Tutorial Workshop by Sonali Minocha - This half-day tutorial is a hand on training to setup MySQL cluster and effectively administer it. You will also learn about deadly mistakes to be avoided and tips on fine-tuning the cluster. We will start the day by a brief introduction to MySQL cluster, what it can do and more importantly what it cannot do. After this we will jump from theory to practical by taking the following agenda

  • Setting up a MySQL Cluster
  • Starting nodes
  • Node failures and Recovery
  • Adding Nodes
  • Helpful tools around MySQL Cluster
  • Backup, Recovery, Monitoring of Cluster
  • How to perform Data Scans
  • Fine Tuning the cluster

4. MySQL Performance Tuning and Optimization by Sonali Minocha: Database and its optimization are usually taken for granted by most of the developers. This session is intended for PHP, Ruby and Java developers on performance tuning and optimization of MySQL. We will cover the deadly mistakes to be avoided. We will take real life examples of optimizing application many times.
