MySQL Camp Bangalore with Kaj Arno

Sun India and OSSCube are organising a MySQL Camp on July 29th 2008 in the City of Bangalore. Kaj Arno, VP (Community Relations), MySQL, will be the star attraction at the meetup. During his visit in India, Kaj is specifically discussing how Sun’s acquisition of MySQL is going to change the world’s most popular open source database.

    An overview of all things MySQL, from a combined technical and business perspective. A short history of MySQL, the company, the product. What the MySQL Community is, and how MySQL works with it. How MySQL is being integrated into Sun.(60 minutes)
  2. How to Contribute Code to MySQL by Thava Alagu
    A discussion on How the community can contribute code to the MySQL DB Project.(30 minutes)
  3. Performance Optimisation in Enterprise Application by Sonali Minocha
    A discussion on how performance optimisation can be carried out using MySQL for Enterprise Applications. (30 minutes)

OSSCamp Delhi Summer Edition

The OSSCamp Community announces the OSSCamp Delhi Summer Edition, an open source unconference scheduled for June 21st 2008 at Indian Social Institute, Lodi Road, New Delhi.

The OSSCamps Community is organizing OSSCamp Delhi Summer Edition in the city of New Delhi on June 21st, 2008. For the first time in India, an unconference is being organized as a platform for highlighting and promoting FOSS projects from India, while keeping up the tradition of organizing a range of constituent camps such as Drupal Camp, MySQL Camp, Web 2.0 Camp, etc.

Around 100 Campers are expected to camp at OSSCamp Delhi Summer Edition. Most of these are professionals from the IT industry with active contribution to the Open Source community. Some are Designers, Artists, Lawyers, etc. who understand the implications of FOSS for future and are adopting to the philosophy of Open Source. The event is filled with voluntary sessions on FOSS Technologies and Projects, and is acting as a platform to showcase one’s new development using Open Source tools and technology, while also fostering new idea.

OSSCamps are not-for-profit community events, relying solely on the sponsors to cover the cost of the event.

OSSCamps is one of the India’s biggest open source communities. Organized on the lines of Bar Camps, OSSCamps are intense events with discussions, demos, and interactions with the participants. Profile of the Speakers:

Mr Larry Stefonic , Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific President, MySQL K.K. (Japan)

Larry Stefonic is responsible for the company’s wholly-owned Japanese subsidiary and oversees its Asia Pacific sales channels. He has over 18 years of successful database business experience, including the introduction of three companies to the Japanese market. Prior to MySQL, Larry was in charge of Worldwide Embedded Sales at Mbrane in Seattle, Washington. He has also led international sales and business development teams at Centura Software, Raima Corporation and Micro Database Systems.

Mr David Axmark, Co-founder and Vice President MySQL

David Axmark was involved with the MySQL database well before it had a name. David’s primary focus now at MySQL is Open Source licensing and strategy, as well as community evangelism. He actively promotes Open Source software and MySQL at conferences and other venues around the world. Interested in free software since the early ’80s, David is committed to developing a successful business model through Open Source software.

Mr Daniel Saito, Representative Director of the Asia Pacific region MySQL

Prior to joining MySQL, Mr. Saito worked within NTT DoCoMo Research & Development as a Research Scientist & Engineer, working on breakthrough technologies in 4G wireless technology and encryption. He also played a critical key role in launching one of the first Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) here in Japan, RIMNET, and later architected and launched the widely successful digital satellite broadcasting platform, SkyPerfectTV
